About this Report

This is an constantly updated report which was initially published in 2021. Its structure builds on the structure offered by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard V2. We are a so-called production & transformation member of the initiative since November 2019 and have achieved first certifications already.

In most cases, this report is a reference measurement for further development and improvements which we will assess with further reports in the following years. Besides any efforts that might already have improved Speira Recycling Services’ environmental performance, the year 2020 is naturally overshadowed by effects due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A decrease in demand and resulting decreases in energy consumption, emissions, and utilization is mainly caused by the temporary slow-down of the entire industry.

In three overall sections on Governance, Environment, and Social this report covers the operations of Speira's Recycling Services. Its predecessor organisation REAL ALLOY Europe consisted of seven European sites, i.e. Grevenbroich (including our European headquarters), Deizisau, and Töging in Germany, Eidsvåg and Raudsand in Norway, Swansea in Great Britain, and Les Islettes in France. REAL ALLOY Europe was acquired by Speira in March 2023. The three German sites now form Speira's new business unit "Recycling Services". The two Norwegian sites were integrated into Speira's existing business unit "Norway". The sites in Great Britain and France were divested. Data on Eidsvåg, Raudsand, Swansea, and Les Islettes is only included in terms of legacy and not to be continued. Data provided in this report are for the calendar year 2021, unless stated otherwise.
